Divination Aptitude Quiz

For most people, to understand the Centuries requires a great deal of intellectual effort and a strong will. But some individuals seem to reach this much easier than others as they rely on a very special skill. This section offers to test one's capability to understand the Nostradamus masterpiece along three determinant qualities.

1rst test : Premonition

Mediums, seers and prophets, which are known to keep in touch with another world, have developed a capacity to foresee the future and to read other people's minds while relying on their 6th sense.

The test proposed here is similar to the J.B. Rhine's series that took place between the years 1930 and 1980 at the Duke University. The experiments consisted in drawing a card at random representing one of 10 preset symbols: A red square, a yellow star, a green circle, a yellow triangle ... and so on. The scientists were kept in a seperate room and the subject had to guess the drawing by guessing the thought transmited to him telepathetically. The test transposed in the following pages is similar to that, but it focuses on premonition instead. It is asked to guess on of the 10 symbols that is about to be drawn by the computer.

If the premonition phenomenon were caused by simple random, the average participants score should be no higher than the average mathematical expectancy. But the scores are in fact higher due to a few talented individuals.

Some scientists have formulated reserves about this test. An adequate answer was designed for each of their criticism:

1. Only advantageous series were published:

   Nostradamia will start one series with no time limit. Each participant's first 20 results will be recorded, no exception. As early as the 20th drawing, random disappears to leave the way for a valid statistical result, and a trend can be distinguished.

2. Results can't be repeated:

   The greater the number of participants, the less it is necessary to repeat the results from a statistical point of view. So, only one series of 20 drawings for each participant will be taken into account as stated above. But the participants with a high score, defined as higher than 33% of good answers, which occurs at random in 1.35% of all cases only, will be invited to pass the test again. The following set of second scores will constitute the second series. On the other hand, those with a lower score will stick to their initial grade.

   An analysis can thus be determined. The gap between the two series will establish objectively if some individuals posess the capability to anticipate the future.

3. Biased results and drawings:

   The Rhine experiences were led by a psychologist or a student that acted under the control of a psychology professor. It is possible that in a few cases some unconscious messages were transmitted through gestual language or voice intonations to a few subjects only waiting to hear them before giving their answers.

   Here, the computer is fully in charge of everything, from the drawing to the recording, without any human intervention, and there can be no unconscious communication. The cards are drawn with the help of a double algorithm, completely hermetic to the human understanding that generates a random number, which in turn determines the symbol presented to the screen. An initial test confirmed that the randomly generated number is valid. Also, the drawing only takes place after the answer was recorded.

A good score on this quiz represents more than the simple ability to understand the Centuries. It shows that some individuals are able to grasp the meaning of the quatrains at the source of the prophet's inspiration, that is in the future.

2d test : Logic

Linguistic aptitudes, rather than mathematics like in traditional IQ tests, are a good indication of one's ability to understand the Nostradamus masterpiece. It is then only a matter of willingness.

3rd test: Culture and linguistics

History, geography, vocabulary, foreign languages, religion... This quiz determines if one's cultural references are compatible with Nostradamus' state of mind.
