Dates of Nostradamus past
These quatrains help to understand Nostradamus' vision of history. They should also provide the beginning of an understanding on his state of mind with regards to his mysterious dates that pertain to the future.
H058 Church renewal
Then the impurities and abominations, with a great shame, will be brought out and manifested in the shadows of the veiled light, and will cease towards the end of the change in reign. The chiefs of the Church will be backward in the love of God, and several of them will apostatize from the true faith.
6.2 Years 580 and 703
"In the year five hundred eighty more or less,"
One will await a very strange century:
"In the year seven hundred and three the heavens witness thereof,"
That several kingdoms one to five will make a change.

There were no succession of 5 reigns in a single year in the 6th and 8th Centuries, and not even in the 5th or 9th. Such historical circumstances take back to the year 68 AD when Nero, Galba, Othon, Vitellius and Vespasian took a turn in power in the year 822 of the Roman calendar. This corresponds in no way to the years 580 and 703. Nostradamus may be referring to some future times. It is important to understand the meaning of the "three skies in witness" (Fr. "3 cieux in témoins") that point to an astrological configuration, thus a meeting point of time and events. The reader should just take a note at this point that 822 and 703 are separated by 121 years while 580 and 703 by 123 - more or less - while the Letter to Henry presents two different chronologies since God created Adam and Eve.
This part is to be linked to the years 606 and 607, which are two dates that Nostradamus repeats with an extreme insistence in the 12th Century, since neither refers to known events of history. See also V-080, VI-06 and VI-07.

The year does not correspond to historical facts, but it could as well deal with past historical events like Saint-Louis or Richard the Lion's Heart. 1606 is the date that is mentioned in H011. The term "of liturgy" should mean that the year 1606 refers to the Christian calendar.

An event was expected on the seventh month of the year 1999 or September of that same year (sept in French means seven and is an abbreviation for September). History will tell if an important event took place on that day. Should it have been Sept 2001, not one human being would be left in the world unbelieving in the prophetic power of Nostradamus. That would have been too easy.

These quatrains establish whether the seer had a prophetic talent
H089 1792 French revolution - persecution of the clergy, new revolutionary calendar.
But not everywhere & it will be the commencement that includes what is to endure & starting that year. the greatest Christian Church persecution that has ever taken place in Africa, & this to last up to the year 1792, which will be thought to mark the renewal of a century.

7th Millennium
There are several ways to interpret the 7th Millennium. It can refer to the year 6000. But the chronologies given by Nostradamus point to the year 1903 or 523 AD / +- 5 years. 1898 could correspond to the rebirth of the Olympic games at the start of the seventh millennium (10-74) If this was the case, the advent would be for now!
H012 Advent
and going far beyond to the events which will take place at the beginning of the seventh millenary, when, so far as my profound astronomical calculations and other knowledge have been able to make out, the adversaries of Jesus Christ and his Church will begin to multiply greatly.
H098 Christ, events leading to advent conflagration - war and earthquake
This will be near the seventh millenary, when the sanctuary of Jesus Christ will no longer be trodden down by the infidels who come from "Aquilon" [the North]. The world will be approaching a great conflagration, although, according to my calculations in my prophecies, the course of time runs much further.

This comment is based on the French text because the English translation does not give the original meaning. The quatrain could have to do with the Olympic games at the time they were introduced in 1898 - the dead that come out of their graves reminds of a horror movie, but it more likely has to do with a Biblical prophecy (See acts of the Apostles). It could also refer to a technological progress like the cloning of cells taken from corpses or synthetic ADN. The date may refer to 2007 but it is not probable. See Nostradamus' chronologies since the beginning of times.
Biblical dates
Nostradamus lists two series of time spans between Jesus Christ and the creation of the world. The sum of the first gives 5477 years vs. 4092 +-10 years for the second one. But the seer wrote 4173 instead ! It is doubtful that he made a dumb mistake since, as an astrologist, he was at ease with numbers. It is a constant feeling that these dates are essential to grasp his astrology.

Thus, this calculation of mine, collected from the holy writ, comes to about 4,173 years and 8 months, more or less.

Nostradamus included in his first series only one date after Jesus Christ: The invasion of Europe by the Arabs in the year 621. But this date does not correspond to the historical facts. The invasion took place at the beginning of the "lazy kings" dynasty, 99 years later, and it did not finish before Charles Martel won the battle of Poitiers in 732, that is 111 years after the date stated by the seer, which he did not ignore!
